This was officially confirmed during the Q&A which followed the presentation of Microsoft in San Francisco, during which, in answer about the question of Windows 10 being the next version for mobile OS, Terry Myerson and Joe Belfiore noted, "The best way to think of it, it will be a natural step forward from the Windows 8.1 model."
